"The oral tradition of Shakers acknowledges that it emerged from Quakers in the Bolton-Manchester area. We will look at the conditions of 18th Century Quakerism that might have fostered the growth of Shakers and explore its development, patterns of growth, communal foundations and theology that made it one of the longest lived communal experiences. The course will also help us explore our own faith experiences using Shaker thought..."
